Don't miss out on IPS' free pre-K program
Plus: Take advantage of Indiana's On My Way Pre-K program for low-income families
Dear neighbor:
Did you know that IPS offers free, public pre-K? There are nearly 150 seats in IPS’ pre-K classrooms that haven’t been filled yet for this upcoming school year.
Read this report on the pre-K openings from Axios Indianapolis here:
You can learn more about these free open pre-K seats at Enroll Indy here.
Additionally, applications are available for the coming school year for On My Way Pre-K, which is Indiana’s only state-sponsored pre-K program. The program provides a free, high-quality preschool education to 4-year-old children from low-income families anywhere in the state. Families can find information and apply at OnMyWayPreK.org and can ask questions or get help applying at Navigate.OnMyWayPreK.org. Check your income eligibility for the program using this resource page.
FSSA advises that you apply for On My Way Pre-K for your 4-year-old by September of this year, as they typically stop taking applications when the preschool year starts.
These are both great opportunities to get your child set up for success as they begin their education. Pre-K has been shown to lead to better outcomes in language and literacy skills and better prepare kids for the rest of their education.
A long-term study released last year by Purdue University showed that children who attend On My Way Pre-K are better prepared for school and that the benefits continue well into elementary school. The study also showed that the program helps families become more economically self-sufficient by giving parents opportunities to get a job, work more hours or start school or a training program. More than two-thirds of parents reported to researcher that they were very satisfied with the program.
